The Straits of Malacca (SoM) is the Malaysian restaurant in downtown Mason where “foodies” with a taste for adventure and fine dining experiences can claim as one of the most unique in Eastern-Western fusion cuisine, namely Southeast Asian reflecting Western colonial influences from the early 18th century.
SoM is located in the old municipal building of Mason on Main Street and has three dining areas:

1. Tioman Cafe — offers authentic Malaysian “Street Food” – Exotic dishes and fruit drinks for the young-at-heart and who are seeking to try something adventurous and excitingly fresh!
2. Blue Intan — Jazz & Tapas Bar – A destination for adults seeking relaxation and premium drinks accompanied by a selection of distinctive tapas with tastes reminiscent of both East and West
3. Langkawi Spice — Gourmet dining experience for enthusiasts who have diverse international eating interests and experiences, and who are willing to pay more for unique tastes and adventurous palates
All three outlets will feature dishes and original recipes from Executive Chef Paul Liew. Guests will have the opportunity to experience the original tastes and textures that have come from a long history of colonial Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Arab, Chinese, Indian, and British influence in port towns along the west coast of the Malay Peninsula.
